(Web Desk): The Government of Punjab (GoPb) has officially launched a transformative Electric Taxi (E-Taxi) Pilot Project in Lahore

Introducing 1,100 electric vehicles into the city’s public transport ecosystem. The initiative aims to promote eco-friendly transportation, support green mobility goals, and create employment opportunities—particularly for women. This ambitious project marks a major step forward in reducing urban air pollution and reshaping the future of ride-hailing services in Pakistan.

Vehicle Allocation: 1,100 E-Taxis Program for Individuals and Fleet Owners

The E-Taxi project allocates vehicles across two main groups:

Fleet Owners – 1,000 E-Taxis

  • Each fleet owner must apply for at least 10 vehicles.
  • Vehicles must be operated through registered Transport Network Companies (TNCs) such as Uber or Careem.
  • Encourages commercial fleet operators to shift toward sustainable mobility.

Individuals – 100 E-Taxis

  • Reserved for drivers already registered with TNCs.
  • 70 E-Taxis allocated for men and 30 E-Taxis for women, highlighting the scheme’s commitment to gender inclusion in public transport.

Financing & Subsidy: Interest-Free Installments for 5 Years

    • 60% of equity for females (to encourage more women drivers).

Vehicle Cost & Specifications

  • Maximum cost per vehicle eligible for financing: PKR 6,500,000.
