PTCL confirms internet slowdown in Pakistan after submarine cable fault
(Web Desk): Pakistanis have encountered slowed internet speeds after a fault in submarine cables near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

This fault partially impaired the capacity of the SMW4 and IMEWE networks—key undersea links that connect Pakistan to global internet routes, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed.

Downdetector and other user-report platforms show a surge in outage reports during peak morning hours, indicating widespread bandwidth strain. PTCL described the issue as a partial impact, likely to cause minor service degradation during high-traffic periods, rather than an outright blackout.

According to PTCL, while international partners are prioritizing repair of the damaged routes, its local technical teams are actively provisioning alternative bandwidth to keep services running and reduce disruption for users nationwide.

A PTCL spokesperson expressed gratitude toward customers for their patience and assured that the situation is under control:

“We are grateful to our customers for their patience. Efforts are being made to minimize the impact of the submarine cable fault.”

In line with past incidents, complete restoration of undersea cables often takes days to weeks due to logistical complexity—but traffic rerouting and backup links typically help sustain core connectivity until repairs are finalised.
