Multan braces for flood tonight, 300,000 residents evacuated

(Web Desk): A large flood surge is likely to enter the boundaries of Multan by this evening, leading to 300,000 evacuations.

Amid Multan flood threat, authorities have started evacuating the residents with the displacement of more than 300,000 people ongoing.

According to details a perilous surge of the Chenab River can enter by this evening in Multan. In order to save the city dwellers, a decision has been taken to breach at Head Muhammad Wala.

Meanwhile, 50,000 cusecs of water is flowing through the Sutlej River near Jalalpur Peerwala, affecting 140 villages.

People are being evacuated from low-lying areas in Rajanpur due to high-level flooding.

The displacement of residents of low-lying areas along the banks of the Sutlej River in Bahawalpur is ongoing.

A high alert has been issued in Faisalabad s Tandlianwala tehsil due to the flood situation, while residents of riverine and low-lying areas are being evacuated to safer places.

The areas of Wazirabad and Hafizabad are affected after the Chenab River overflowed its banks. Forty villages in Hafizabad are still submerged.

It should be noted that there is extremely high flooding at Ganda Singh Wala in the Sutlej River, and announcements are being made to evacuate villages adjacent to Talwar Post.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division Lahore, the water flow at Ganda Singh Wala has started to decrease, with the flow decreasing from 390,000 cusecs to 345,366 cusecs.

Director General PDMA Punjab Irfan Ali Kathia said that Lahore is now completely safe, but the next 24 to 48 hours will be tough for districts downstream from Lahore, including Okara, Sahiwal and Toba Tek Singh, due to the flooding in the Ravi River.
