This announcement comes in respect to the month of Muharram to reduce public inconveniences. As per a spokesperson, the crackdown has been temporarily halted around Ashura so that citizens can get their vehicles fitted and registered with the official excise-sanctioned number plates.

The official highlighted that eventhough the operation is on halt till July 15, the owners of vehicles with unofficial number plates are encouraged to use this time to prepare their plates and documents.

After July 15, the crackdown for vehicles without unofficial number plates will resume as normal, added the spokesperson.
