
With the monsoon season intensifying, Pakistan’s stunning northern regions are facing dangerous conditions due to ongoing heavy rains and rising risks of landslides and flash floods. Tourists are being strongly urged to cancel or postpone their travel plans to protect themselves and their families.
A landslide and flood emergency has been declared across Gilgit-Baltistan, including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Astore, Diamer, and Ghanche and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Haveli, Bagh, and Poonch. Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa areas like Chitral, Dir, and Kohistan are also on high alert.
In Chilas, Deputy Commissioner Diamer Atta-ur-Rehman Kakar has imposed an emergency on Thak-Babusar Road after flash floods damaged the route. Entire families were stranded, vehicles swept away, and several tourists reportedly went missing. An Emergency Control Room has been established, and all departmental heads have been directed to stay active.

Key departments: including Health, Police, Rescue 1122, NDMA, C&W, and local construction teams have been mobilized. Private dam contractors have also been instructed to send excavators to Babusar for support. Movement from Zero Point to Babusar Top is now completely suspended, and tourists and locals are advised to move to safer areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and NDMA warn that continued rainfall may worsen the situation.
