(Web Desk): Lahore is set to welcome Yellow Line a new underground metro train which promises fast, eco-friendly travel without harming the environment.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA), in partnership with engineering firm NESPAK, has officially begun the design and cost planning phase of this 24 kilometer-long project that will run from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura.

What truly makes the Yellow Line stand out is its eco-friendly design. City planners have assured that not a single tree will be removed and no green space will be harmed during construction. That’s because the project will use a technique known as cut-and-cover tunneling a process where shallow trenches are dug, the tunnel structure is built inside, and the road is carefully restored on top. It’s a smart approach that keeps Canal Road open for traffic once work is finished.

The new metro line will operate as a fully underground, signal-free electric tram designed to ease traffic pressure and reduce air pollution in Lahore. The plan includes 20 modern electric trains being brought in from China, and if all goes according to schedule, the Yellow Line will be up and running by December 2026. A strip of land about 12 to 14 feet wide on either side of Canal Road will be used for the tunneling route.

Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and NESPAK are working closely to wrap up the final design and technical blueprints. Once that’s done, the project will move into the next construction phase. If delivered successfully, the Yellow Line could become a landmark for smart, sustainable transport and a blueprint for future urban development across Pakistan.
