Lahore (Web Desk): Electric tram route and road design finalized as Punjab government moves forward with Lahore's modern transport plan.

Electric tram service is set to transform Lahore s urban transport as the Punjab government finalizes important decisions regarding its first tram route.

According to official sources, the tram will operate from Harbanspura to Thokar Niaz Baig, following the stretch of the city s central artery, Canal Road.

To accommodate this project, major infrastructure changes have been approved. The tram line will be laid on the extreme left side of Canal Road, and all underpasses along the route will be restructured into single-lane systems to allow uninterrupted tram movement.

Notably, the Jail Road underpass will be shifted from the left to the right side to fit the new design.

Further modifications include widening the road near bus stops to reduce traffic bottlenecks and allow smooth tram operations.

The Transport Department is still reviewing critical elements like traffic flow, safety, and technical design.

Additionally, plans are being considered to build an underground road from Jallo to Harbanspura, aimed at reducing surface congestion.

The main tram depot will be located near Thokar Niaz Baig, where trams will be housed and maintained.

This project is not just about public transport, it s a step toward eco-friendly and efficient mobility, aiming to reduce pollution and offer a reliable alternative for thousands of daily commuters in Lahore.
