Authorities in Islamabad have launched a city-wide crackdown on unlicensed drivers, introducing stricter enforcement measures aimed at curbing the growing number of individuals operating vehicles without proper documentation. Beginning October 1, anyone found driving without a valid license will face immediate arrest and legal consequences.
According to the Islamabad Traffic Police, the new policy is part of a broader initiative to strengthen compliance with traffic laws and enhance road safety across the capital. Under the revised enforcement plan, not only will offenders be arrested, but their vehicles will also be impounded on the spot. Legal proceedings will follow, and penalties may include fines or further judicial action.
In a significant administrative move, the authorities have also decided that individuals caught driving without a license will be denied character certificates until they acquire a valid driving license. Character certificates are often required for employment, government documentation, or visa applications, and their suspension is expected to serve as a strong deterrent for would-be violators.
Traffic police officials stated that the new regulations would be implemented uniformly across all zones and sectors of Islamabad. Special squads are being deployed to intensify patrols and checkpoints throughout the city. Officers have been instructed to adopt a zero-tolerance approach when dealing with unlicensed drivers, regardless of age or background.
The initiative is seen as a response to the increasing number of traffic violations and accidents involving untrained or unlicensed drivers. Authorities believe that tighter control over driver licensing will not only improve compliance but also reduce the risk of road accidents caused by inexperienced motorists.
Citizens have been urged to ensure they possess valid driving licenses before getting behind the wheel, as no leniency will be granted once the new policy comes into effect.
