Karachi may finally see relief from its endless traffic jams as the federal government moves ahead with a mega road expansion plan, the new M-10 Motorway.
The federal government has launched a feasibility study for the ambitious 134km M-10 Motorway project, which will extend the existing 57km Karachi Northern Bypass.
According to officials, the project will directly connect Karachi with the M-6 Motorway at Jamshoro, passing through the rugged Kirthar Mountain Range.
The project was reviewed in a high-level meeting held at the Sindh CM House, chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
During the session, it was revealed that National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) is conducting the feasibility study, ensuring technical and environmental evaluations are underway before construction begins.
A 23km stretch of the existing road will also be widened to six lanes, creating a seamless and high-capacity link from Karachi Port to the M-6.
Officials described the plan as “transformative,” emphasizing that it goes beyond a simple road upgrade and will play a central role in reducing Karachi’s chronic traffic congestion.
Minister Khan said the project’s main objective is to “ease Karachi’s heavy traffic pressure by linking the metropolis with the national motorway system through a direct, high-speed route.”

The Sindh CM welcomed federal backing and expressed confidence that the M-6 and M-10 projects would be completed transparently and within schedule.
If executed effectively, the M-10 Motorway could transform Karachi’s transport infrastructure by reducing port congestion, speeding up cargo movements, and integrating the city more strongly into Pakistan’s motorway network.
However, building across the Kirthar Mountain Range will require advanced engineering and strict environmental safeguards.
The success of this project will depend on transparency, timely funding, and coordination between federal and provincial governments.
