Garbage Tax in Punjab: Check bills for houses, shops and offices

(Web Desk): The Punjab government has introduced garbage tax under the “Clean Punjab” initiative, which has initially been enforced in upscale residential and commercial areas across the province.

According to reports, the tax was approved by the Punjab cabinet as part of the ‘Suthra Punjab’ drive. The charges have been categorized separately for urban and rural areas, with variations based on the size of houses and shops.

Garbage Tax for Houses

In urban areas, a 5-marla house will be charged Rs300 per month, while in rural areas the amount will be Rs200.

Houses between 5 to 10 marlas will pay Rs500 in cities, and a fixed Rs200 in villages.

For houses from 10 marlas to 1 kanal, the tax is Rs1,000 in cities and Rs400 in rural areas.

Residences between 2 to 4 kanals will pay Rs2,000 in cities, while houses larger than 4 kanals will be taxed Rs5,000. In villages, homes over 2 kanals will be charged Rs400.

Garbage Tax for Shops and Offices

In cities, small shops will be charged Rs500, while in villages the tax is Rs300.

Medium-sized shops will be charged Rs1,000 in urban areas, and Rs700 in rural areas.

Large commercial centers will pay Rs3,000 in cities and Rs2,000 in villages.

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has already begun distributing garbage tax bills. Their revenue and operational teams will handle both the distribution and collection process.
