The Sindh government has officially announced that its long-awaited Pink Taxi Scheme for Women will be launched in December 2025, as confirmed by Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon during a recent event in Karachi.
This initiative, designed to provide safe, affordable, and women-only transport, was first hinted at last week by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. It forms part of the provincial government’s broader effort to improve gender-sensitive mobility options and urban transport infrastructure for women. The announcement came at a government-organized ceremony where electric Pink Scooters were distributed to female students and professionals. These scooters aim to support independent mobility for women who face daily commuting challenges, especially in crowded urban environments.During the event, Bilawal Bhutto emphasized the importance of transport access for women s empowerment and mobility, noting that the upcoming Pink Taxi service will significantly benefit students and working women who frequently face safety concerns while commuting.
The Pink Taxi service will be driven and operated by women, offering a secure and respectful environment for female passengers. The initiative is seen as a progressive step toward gender-inclusive urban development and aims to boost women s access to education, employment, and public life.
