
A high-level fact-finding committee has been established by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh. The high-level fact-finding committee is being led by Additional IGP (CTD) Azad Khan, with DIG West Irfan Baloch and SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch as members. This panel has been tasked with completing a preliminary investigation within two days and submitting its report to the IGP Sindh.
Simultaneously, the Sindh Home Department has formed a medical board, comprised of senior doctors and forensic experts, to conduct an impartial post-mortem examination. The request for this medical panel was initiated at the behest of both Khawar’s family and the journalist community, emphasizing the need for transparency and fairness.
Surveillance footage from a nearby hotel shows Khawar Hussain arriving and exiting the washroom twice before returning to his car—alone each time. The car was parked outside the establishment on Hyderabad Road late Saturday night when his body was found, reportedly with a bullet wound to the temple and a licensed pistol—belonging to him—clutched in his hand. The car windows were rolled up and no one else was seen in the vicinity.
DIG Faisal Bashir Memon confirmed that call data records (CDR) are being retrieved and will be made available within 24 hours. Forensic examination of the bullet casing and post-mortem results are also pending.
The incident has elicited strong reactions across Sindh’s political and journalistic circles. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took administrative notice and demanded a report from the IGP, emphasizing the need for the case to be handled by the province’s “best police officer.” Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praised Khawar Hussain’s professionalism and demanded that a transparent investigation follow.
Similarly, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar expressed their condolences and urged a thorough investigation.
The Karachi Press Club (KPC), of which Hussain was a member, has called for an impartial inquiry, lamenting his sudden death and demanding that “real reasons and motives” be uncovered.

The Karachi Union of Journalists declared a three-day mourning period. A three-day mourning period has been declared by the Karachi Union of Journalists and they have condemned any premature labeling of the incident as suicide. They have urged a thorough probe into all possible angles—particularly whether the death was related to his journalistic work.
To ensure full accountability and transparency, detailed police reports have been requested by the Sindh Commission for the Protection of Journalists and Other Media Practitioners (SCPJMP).
Khawar Hussain, a seasoned political reporter, had worked for several prominent news outlets. Originally from Sanghar, he was visiting to attend a family mourning gathering. His family resides in the United States.
