According to initial reports from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake measured 5.0 on the Richter scale, which is considered moderate in strength.
Such tremors can cause minor structural damage, especially in older or poorly constructed buildings. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries from any of the affected cities.
Residents across Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir reported feeling their homes, offices, and furniture shake for several seconds. In many areas, people evacuated buildings out of fear, especially in high rise structures. While panic did set in briefly, no large-scale emergency was reported.

Seismologists remind the public that Pakistan lies in an active seismic zone, and earthquakes are not uncommon. For context, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit Mirpur, AJK, in 2019, causing severe damage and several deaths. In comparison, today’s tremor was less intense and fortunately did not lead to such devastation.
This event is a reminder for people to stay alert and take earthquake preparedness seriously. Experts recommend securing furniture, checking building safety, and keeping emergency kits handy. Authorities will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates in case of aftershocks or any late reported damages.
