
Khan, who was riding home on his motorcycle, was attacked by unknown assailants. His attackers shot him in the head, critically injuring him. Rescue authorities confirmed that he died immediately at the incident spot.
Right after the attack, the perpetrators were able to escape from the scene. The body of the victim was transferred to a close-by hospital, while the security forces and police cordoned off the site to gather evidence and initiate an investigation. Even though immediate action was taken, the perpetrators are still unknown, and no arrests have been made yet.

The blatant murder has sent shock waves and outrage among ANP leaders and cadres. Party officials termed Mir Azam Khan a dedicated and active political worker who always raised his voice in support of the people of Bajaur. They condemned the assassination as a great loss for the party as well as for the people for whom he was working.
Police authorities have assured that attempts are being made to track down and arrest the attackers. The attack has further alerted people to increasing insecurity in the area, with political figures increasingly becoming victims of violence.
