CM Maryam launches electric buses in Sahiwal, check routes

(Web Desk): Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz launched electric bus service in Sahiwal, on Monday.

Attending the inauguration ceremony, CM Maryam declared that the passengers would now be able to travel for as little as Rs. 20, instead of the earlier sky-high fare of several hundred rupees.

Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister announced that the new facility would be absolutely free to women, senior citizens, students, and people with disabilities.

She further informed that the buses are specifically equipped with ramps for differently-abled commuters, providing equal opportunity and accessibility.

Maryam Nawaz also thanked people for the warm welcome in Sahiwal, saying that she can never forget their love. She also passed on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif s regards to the people and said he had requested her specifically to tell them about his affection.

In the launching ceremony CM underscored that not only the electric buses are cost-effective but also secure. "Every vehicle is fitted with security cameras to make it impossible for anyone to harass women," she said. Passengers will also get to experience contemporary facilities like free Wi-Fi on their travels.

Maryam Nawaz underscored that the government s top priority is to enhance transport facilities in small cities, allowing women and elderly citizens to travel with dignity and security.

As per details, these buses will operate across five designated routes, connecting various localities to the main city and facilitating daily commuters with surrounding towns of Harappa, Kamir, Yousafwala and Noor Shah.

Official sources said the Sahiwal Division comprising Sahiwal, Pakpattan, and Okara districts will receive a total of 66 electric buses under a population-based allocation formula.
