The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) sealed the capital’s high-security Red Zone on Sunday, placing containers and closing key routes over fears of possible protests.
An ITP official confirmed that all entry and exit points leading to the Red Zone have been shut, with access now limited strictly to essential personnel. Earlier, limited movement was allowed via Margalla Road and the route near the Marriott Hotel, but authorities have tightened restrictions under a revised security plan.
Traffic wardens have been deployed at major intersections across the city to guide commuters toward alternate routes and prevent congestion. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel toward the Red Zone until further notice and to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies.

The Red Zone houses key state institutions, including the Parliament of Pakistan, Supreme Court of Pakistan, and the Prime Minister’s Office, along with several foreign embassies. Security in the area is routinely heightened during political gatherings, protests, or other sensitive developments.
Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored and warned that further road closures or additional security measures could be introduced if required. For real-time updates, citizens can contact the Police Emergency Helpline Pucar-15 or the Traffic Helpline 1915.
