Karachi (Web Desk): The Pakistan Navy successfully rescued 18 crew members, including several foreign nationals, after a merchant ship sent an emergency distress call from the North Arabian Sea.

According to the military’s media wing, the operation was carried out by the Pakistan Navy ship PNS Hunain. The distressed vessel, named Gold Autumn, was located around 200 nautical miles, nearly 370 kilometres, away from Pakistan’s coastline.

As soon as the distress signal was received, the navy launched a quick search and rescue mission in the open sea. The rescue team provided immediate medical aid to the crew members.

They also helped control the fire on the ship and carried out a detailed damage assessment to ensure safety. All 18 crew members were safely evacuated from the vessel. The rescued individuals included nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

After the operation, the crew was brought to Karachi for medical treatment and arrangements for their return to their home countries. Officials said the mission highlights the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to humanitarian efforts and its readiness to respond quickly to maritime emergencies.

The Navy emphasized that such operations underscore its role as a first responder in maritime crises within its area of responsibility.

Last month, the Pakistan Navy had also launched Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr to protect maritime trade routes and ensure the safe movement of energy supplies. This initiative was introduced amid rising regional tensions and threats to important sea routes.

Apart from defending national waters, the Pakistan Navy regularly takes part in humanitarian missions to save lives at sea, regardless of nationality.
