The arrest is being described as a major breakthrough against the militant group.
According to officials, Sultan Aziz Azzam was the spokesman of ISIS Khorasan and the founder of its official media wing, Al-Azaim Foundation. The group is considered central to ISIS-K’s recruitment and propaganda activities.
After his arrest, ISIS-K’s media operations reportedly came to a halt. Pakistani authorities have recently made several high-profile arrests while intensifying action against ISIS-K networks.

The arrest was later highlighted in the United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team’s 16th report. The report said Pakistan’s actions have weakened ISIS-K’s organisational structure at an international level.
The UN noted that several planned attacks were foiled, the number of fighters declined, and key commanders and ideological leaders were neutralised due to these operations.
The report further confirmed that arrests, including Sultan Aziz Azzam and senior leader Abu Yasir al-Turki, significantly reduced ISIS-K’s operational strength. It also said major propaganda platforms like “Voice of Khorasan” were suspended.
