Former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has openly accepted India’s defeat in the Pakistan-India clash. In a strong statement, he said India was already beaten by Pakistan on the first day of the war.
Chavan stated that during the half-hour aerial combat on May 7, India suffered a complete setback. He said people may accept it or not, but Indian fighter jets were shot down by the Pakistan Air Force.
He added that after the destruction of Rafale aircraft, the entire Indian Air Force was grounded. According to him, not a single Indian jet was allowed to take off from airbases in Gwalior, Bhatinda, or Sirsa.

Chavan claimed that Indian authorities feared further losses. He said if Indian aircraft had taken off, Pakistan would have shot them down as well, which is why the Indian Air Force was kept grounded.
It is worth recalling that during the Pakistan-India conflict in May, the Pakistan Air Force dominated the skies. In the four-day confrontation, Pakistan reportedly shot down seven Indian aircraft, including Rafale jets.
During the recent tensions, Pakistan maintained a clear upper hand. Even US President Donald Trump has acknowledged Pakistan Air Force’s superiority on several occasions.
This statement is rare from a senior Indian leader. It challenges the official Indian narrative. The remarks highlight Pakistan Air Force’s strength. Such admissions may deepen debate inside India.
