(Web Desk): The federal government has appointed senior police officer Dr Usman Anwar as Director General of the FIA with immediate effect.

The federal government on Tuesday appointed Dr Usman Anwar as the new Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), according to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division on February 3, 2026.

Dr Anwar, a BS-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, was serving as the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Punjab before assuming his new responsibilities. He has been transferred and posted as DG FIA with immediate effect and will continue in the position until further orders.

The appointment has been made under Section 3(2) of the FIA Act, 1974, read with Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973.

Dr Usman Anwar brings with him extensive experience in policing, intelligence, and administration. Over the course of his career, he has served in several key roles, including with the National Highways and Motorway Police and the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department. He has also worked as Senior Superintendent of Police Operations in Faisalabad and as Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi.

In addition, Dr Anwar has served at the Prime Minister’s Office and held postings as District Police Officer in Okara and Sargodha. His experience also includes roles in the Telecommunications Wing and the Elite Police, giving him exposure to both operational and strategic aspects of law enforcement.

Officials said Dr Anwar’s diverse background and administrative expertise position him well to lead the FIA at a critical time. They expressed confidence that his leadership would help strengthen the agency’s investigative capacity and enhance efforts against financial crimes, cybercrime, and transnational offenses.
