(Web Desk): Private TV channels and websites reported hacking incidents, prompting authorities to assess the nature and motive of cyber intrusions

Pakistan’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) on Monday initiated a formal investigation into a series of reported cyberattacks that targeted several private television channels and websites across the country.

According to a report broadcast, a special meeting of the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) was held in Islamabad to review the cyber incidents that reportedly took place. The meeting brought together cybersecurity experts and senior officials, who discussed launching an in-depth inquiry of the intrusions and evaluating the extent of the disruption caused to media platforms.

Officials said the primary focus of the investigation is to determine both the motive and the nature of the cyber break-ins, while efforts are also being made to assess any potential damage. Authorities added that close coordination and consultation with relevant national institutions are continuing as part of the inquiry.

Separately, reports suggested that a group identifying itself as Pakistan’s Cyber Force launched a cyber operation targeting India. During the alleged counterattack, the Indian broadcaster ABP News was reportedly briefly compromised, with pro-Pakistan slogans and content related to the Pakistani military aired on screen.

Excerpts from speeches by Syed Asim Munir were also reportedly broadcast during the incident. Authorities on both sides have yet to officially confirm the claims.

During the meeting, National CERT officials assured participants that a detailed report would be compiled and shared once the investigation into the cyberattacks is completed. Complaints were received regarding the hacking of multiple private television channels and websites, prompting an immediate security review.
