LAHORE (Web Desk): Balochistan was earlier split into A and B areas, with police and Levies in charge, respectively. The provincial government has now abolished B areas, placing all regions under police jurisdiction.

The government has now declared Sibi and Loralai divisions as A-areas. The decision was made in a cabinet meeting and is part of a broader effort to unify law enforcement across the province.

"A Areas" were under regular police jurisdiction, while "B Areas" (around 90% of the province) were controlled by the Levies Force (provincial paramilitary forces or gendarmeries).

All members of the Levies Force, including provincial and ex-federal levies and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Wing, will join the Balochistan Police while keeping their existing ranks, pay, and benefits. Their work, administration, and functioning will now follow the Balochistan Police Act, 2011.

The merger includes transferring all assets of the Levies Force, budget allocations, stations, check-posts, vehicles, arms, records, and training institutions to the police. Superintendents of the converted districts will provide police personnel to district administration and other government bodies to enforce local and special laws.

Commissioners of Sibi and Loralai divisions have been directed to complete the transition within 30 days. Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the move resolves “longstanding administrative ambiguity” and strengthens public protection by clarifying state responsibilities.

Earlier in October 2025, six divisions, including Quetta, Kalat, Makran, Zhob, Rakhshan, and Nasirabad were converted into A-areas with the merger of the Levies Force. Sibi and Loralai divisions were the last to complete this transition.
