In a daring attack on February 16, security forces in Bajaur district successfully foiled a militant attempt to breach a check post, killing 12 members of the banned group Fitna al-Khawarij. However, 11 security personnel were martyred in a subsequent explosion.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the militants first tried to break through the check post’s security cordon, but the forces thwarted their plan. In retaliation, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the check post walls, resulting in a devastating blast.
The explosion also damaged nearby residential buildings, claiming the life of a young girl and injuring seven others, including women and children. Emergency rescue operations were immediately launched to provide medical assistance to the victims.
ISPR confirmed that the area remains under high alert as search operations continue to locate any remaining militants in the region. Officials emphasized that while the attackers were eliminated, the attack highlights the persistent threat posed by extremist groups in the area.
