The court emphasized that emissions from unchecked traffic are a major cause of poor air quality.
During the hearing on petitions regarding smog prevention, a member of the Judicial Commission revealed that many heavy vehicles operate after 11 p.m. without proper monitoring.
The member also highlighted ongoing plantation drives to improve the environment.
The court stressed that air quality cannot improve unless vehicles are regularly checked.
Officials are instructed to start inspecting heavy traffic from today across the province.
The court also addressed the rising trend of paddle courts in public parks. The bench said such constructions have become a “new fashion” but cannot be allowed.
“Parks are meant for public recreation and greenery, not commercial or private facilities,” the judge stated.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) explained that sports facilities are permitted under Sections 10 and 16 of the PHA Act. However, each paddle court requires around two kanals of space.
