ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has cancelled Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri’s appointment over fake degree, ordering his immediate removal from the bench.

The Court declared the appointment of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri as a judge invalid and ordered his immediate removal. The decision came after a petition filed by advocate Mian Dawood and was issued by a two-member bench led by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar.

The court directed the Ministry of Law to officially de-notify Justice Jahangiri. All objections regarding bench formation and full court references were dismissed, and the case was adjourned until the Sindh High Court ruling.

The judgment stated that Justice Jahangiri was given multiple chances to submit his response and prove his educational qualifications but failed to provide any satisfactory evidence. No valid reason was presented by him.

According to the court, eligibility for a high court judge is an individual matter. Having the constitutionally required qualifications is mandatory, and Jahangiri did not hold a valid LL.B degree when appointed as an additional or permanent judge in Islamabad High Court.

The court ruled that since he was never eligible to become a lawyer, he could not be appointed as a judge under Article 175-A. His appointment and promotions were considered illegal, and he cannot remain a judge in Islamabad High Court.

The written verdict confirmed that Justice Jahangiri has been removed immediately. The Ministry of Law and Justice was instructed to send a copy of the court order without delay, and all pending miscellaneous applications were disposed of.

During hearings, Karachi University’s registrar presented the original degree records, confirming the cancellation of Jahangiri’s degree. The principal of Islamia Law College also testified that Jahangiri was never their student and had been caught cheating, resulting in a three-year ban.

After hearing arguments, the court announced its decision, officially nullifying Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri’s appointment as a judge of Islamabad High Court.
