Web Desk: The Rawalpindi ATC has rejected a petition filed by Aleema Khan seeking an international forensic examination of videos linked to the November 26 protest case.

Court rejects Aleema Khan petition

The anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi announced its reserved decision on the request filed by Aleema Khan.

The court agreed with the prosecution’s objections and dismissed the petition in the Aleema Khan case.

The request was related to a case registered over the November 26 protest. Aleema Khan had asked the court to send a USB containing several videos for international forensic examination.

Her witness, Fatahullah Barqi, had presented the USB before the court. The device contained different videos that the defence wanted examined further.

Prosecution opposes forensic examination

During the proceedings, Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah raised objections to the request.

Aleema Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Malik, argued in support of the petition and sought an international forensic review of the videos.

Both sides presented their arguments before the Rawalpindi ATC on August 11.

The prosecution maintained that there was no need for the requested examination. The anti-terrorism court later considered the arguments before announcing its decision.

Why did the court reject the request?

The court said the material contained in the USB was already part of the judicial record.

It also ruled that the videos were not relevant to the case. On this basis, the Rawalpindi ATC agreed with the prosecution’s objections and rejected the petition.

The ruling means the requested international forensic examination will not be carried out under the current order.

The decision is a new development in the Aleema Khan case, which will now move forward with the evidence already available on the court record.

Next hearing on August 25

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah postponed further proceedings in the November 26 protest case until August 25.

The anti-terrorism court will continue hearing the matter as the parties present their positions and evidence.

The Aleema Khan case remains under legal proceedings, with the court now having rejected the request for an international review of the videos.
