Punjab’s Education Department sent an official circular to all education authorities, instructing schools to immediately stop students from using mobile phones on campus.
According to the issued notification, the ban will apply uniformly to both public and private schools.
The decision aims to improve students’ academic performance, keep their attention focused on studies, and enhance discipline within schools.
The Education Department has instructed heads of all provincial education authorities to strictly enforce the ban. The notification clearly states that no student will be allowed to bring or use a mobile phone on school premises, and schools have been empowered to take strict action against any violations.
This decision comes under a resolution passed by the Punjab Assembly, which highlighted that mobile phones act as a distraction, negatively affecting children’s education, attention, and mental and psychological development.

The growing trend of excessive social media use, unnecessary photography, and online gaming also made this decision necessary.
Education experts have welcomed the move, saying that the ban will improve the learning environment and help students focus on books and classroom activities. Parents have also praised the decision, noting that it will increase discipline and significantly reduce unnecessary screen time.
The government has clarified that implementation of the policy has already begun, and awareness campaigns will be conducted in all schools to ensure that both students and parents understand the new rules clearly.
