Sources in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department said winter vacation in educational institutions of plain areas will run from January 1 to January 15, 2026. In the coldest hilly regions, winter holidays will start from December 22 and continue until February 28, 2026.
Officials said these holidays were already decided earlier in an education department notification issued in August. The new announcement only confirms the previously planned schedule.
Education department sources added that quarterly examinations are currently underway in all government schools across the province. A formal notification regarding winter vacations is likely to be issued today.

Meanwhile, the Azad Kashmir Education Department has also announced winter vacations. Educational institutions in warmer areas of Azad Kashmir will remain closed from December 29 to January 10.
Institutions in colder regions of Azad Kashmir will suspend academic activities from December 26 until February 26 due to harsh weather conditions.
It may be recalled that a day earlier, winter vacations were also announced for federally administered educational institutions.
The Directorate of Education has issued a formal notification for Islamabad. According to it, winter vacations in model schools and colleges of the federal capital will begin on December 26 and continue until January 3. Academic activities will resume from Monday, January 5, 2026.
