The Punjab government has put an end to uncertainty surrounding the reopening of schools by confirming that all public and private educational institutions will resume classes on January 19, following a one-week extension in winter vacations due to severe cold weather.
Punjab Education Minister Sikandar Hayat said the decision is final and that no further extension in winter holidays will be granted. His statement comes after days of speculation among students, parents, and school administrations about a possible delay in reopening.
The minister explained that winter vacations began on December 20, and students were given a total of 30 days off for the season. He noted that students have already utilized 27 days of the break, and schools will reopen once the remaining holidays end as per the approved schedule.
According to Sikandar Hayat, the education department will move forward with the academic calendar without any changes, ensuring that examinations, syllabi, and learning targets remain on track. He urged parents and students to make necessary preparations for the return to classrooms.
