The proposal aims to reduce study gaps and increase effective learning days for students across the province. The main goal is to increase teaching days in a school year to at least 180 to 190 days. This step is being considered to prevent academic loss caused by long holidays.
The minister said that excessive holidays are reducing actual teaching time in schools. He added that changes are needed to improve discipline and learning quality.
Under the proposal summer vacations may be reduced by 15 to 20 days. Winter holidays may also be shortened by around 5 to 6 days.
Another option under consideration is to keep schools open on alternate Saturdays. This would help cover syllabus gaps and improve academic progress.
A major change being planned is separate academic calendars for Matric and O and A Level students. This will help align studies with international examination schedules more effectively.
Officials noted that schools faced long closures in March 2026 due to regional issues and fuel crisis. After that disruption the government is now focusing on faster recovery of academic loss. The new measures are expected to bring more discipline in the education system. However, the final decision will depend on further approval and planning.
