Pakistan launches FIFA Football program across 3000 schools
FIFA-backed program reaches Pakistani schools
The FIFA Football for Schools initiative has officially been launched in Pakistan to promote football among schoolchildren and create a stronger grassroots talent pathway.
The program is being implemented by the Pakistan Football Federation with support from FIFA, the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and UNESCO. The PFF plans to introduce football activities in 3,000 public schools across the country.
The FIFA football program Pakistan initiative will distribute around 162,000 footballs to participating schools. It is expected to give millions of students an opportunity to take part in organised football activities.
Teachers to receive special training
More than 50 master trainers have already received training under FIFA instructors led by Antonio Buenano Sanchez, FIFA Senior Football for Schools Manager.
These master trainers will return to their districts and train other teachers. The training could eventually create around 450 trainers across the country.
The FIFA Football for Schools program will also provide educators with access to a dedicated app available in Urdu, helping teachers organise football activities and training sessions.
Public schools will get priority
The Pakistan Football Federation said the initial focus would remain on public schools because football infrastructure remains a major challenge in many parts of Pakistan.

Schools and teachers will be selected according to FIFA criteria, while partner organisations will assist with implementation. District and Regional Football Associations will later connect participating schools with the wider football structure.
According to the PFF, more schools and districts will gradually be added as the initiative expands.
Focus on future football talent
The FIFA football program Pakistan initiative is also expected to help identify promising young players at an early stage.
PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani said grassroots development is central to the programme and could help Pakistan discover young football talent.
The FIFA Football for Schools project will provide children with regular opportunities to learn and play football while also supporting broader participation.
Girls’ participation also included
The programme is also designed to promote inclusion and provide meaningful opportunities for girls to participate in football.
Prime Minister’s Youth Programme focal person Syeda Amna Batool stressed the importance of creating opportunities for girls in sports.
The Pakistan Football Federation said the initiative would gradually expand its reach and connect school-level football with the country’s broader development structure.

New talent pathway coming in 2027
Pakistan is also preparing for the FIFA Talent Development Scheme, which is scheduled for January 2027.
The PFF said the scheme will provide a more structured pathway for developing players across different age groups.
The FIFA football program Pakistan effort could therefore become an important first step toward identifying and developing young players before they move into more competitive football.
The FIFA Football for Schools initiative is expected to give schools a stronger role in grassroots football development.
