Facial recognition launched for attendance in government schools
The Sindh School Education Department said the new system will record employees’ arrival and departure through facial recognition technology.
The pilot has initially been introduced in Karachi East, Hyderabad, Naushehro Feroze, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Umerkot.
Around 49,565 teaching and non-teaching employees will have their attendance monitored through the technology during the pilot phase.
Officials said the initiative aims to make school attendance more transparent, efficient and modern while improving monitoring of staff presence.
Attendance through mobile phones
Under the new system, teachers can mark their attendance using an application installed on any available mobile phone.
Officials said attendance can also be recorded when internet connectivity is unavailable. Once the internet connection is restored, the system will automatically update the stored attendance records.
Teachers will be required to record both their arrival and departure from school.
Employees will also be able to check their complete attendance history through the application.
Online leave applications
The system will provide additional digital facilities for teachers and staff.
Employees will be able to download their monthly attendance records and submit leave applications online through the application.
The department expects the system to make attendance monitoring easier while reducing manual record-keeping and improving administrative oversight.
More districts may be included
The School Education Department said administrative officers, school heads and teachers have already received training on how to use the new system.
Officials will assess the results of the pilot project before deciding whether to expand facial recognition attendance to additional districts across Sindh.
The move is part of efforts to modernize the management of government schools and improve accountability among teaching and non-teaching employees.
