In a landmark initiative, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the province’s first-ever comprehensive health screening program for special children, aimed at ensuring their physical and mental well-being across the province.

According to official details, the program — initiated under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif — has begun health screening for more than 35,600 special children enrolled in special education centers across Punjab.

Free medical checkups and treatment for special students

The health screening initiative includes comprehensive medical checkups, eye examinations, dental assessments, and treatment for other health conditions among more than 34,000 students studying in Punjab’s special education institutions.

So far, on-the-spot medical treatment has been provided to 20,000 students directly at their respective special education centers, ensuring quick and accessible care. Additionally, over 9,000 students have been referred to tehsil headquarters (THQ) and district headquarters (DHQ) hospitals for further medical attention.

Major hospitals providing specialized care

In major cities across Punjab, specialized treatment and medical care for more than 5,000 special children are currently ongoing at leading hospitals. The government has emphasized that no special child will be left without access to essential healthcare facilities.

Enrollment drive brings over 5,000 new admissions

As part of the initiative, a door-to-door enrollment campaign was also successfully carried out to identify and register special children who were previously out of the education system. This effort has resulted in more than 5,000 new admissions to special education centers across the province.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed her commitment to inclusive education and healthcare, stating that every child deserves equal access to quality education and medical support regardless of their physical or mental challenges.

The launch of this health screening program marks a major step forward in Punjab’s efforts to empower differently-abled students, ensuring they receive the attention, treatment, and opportunities they deserve.
