Islamabad (Web Desk): The Supreme Court ordered the immediate arrest of absconders in the Jaranwala case and directed trial completion within six months.

A two-member bench led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi heard petitions from the Punjab government seeking cancellation of bail granted to some accused in the Jaranwala church attack case.

During the hearing, Additional Prosecutor General Punjab Ahmad Gilani urged the court to speed up the trial, highlighting delays in the case. The government requested a clear timeline to ensure quick justice.

Taking notice, the court directed the trial court to complete proceedings within six months. It also ordered the Inspector General of Punjab Police to arrest all absconding suspects without delay.

Chief Justice Afridi stressed that those who fled must be caught quickly so justice can be delivered.

The Jaranwala incident had shocked the country. In 2023, a mob attacked churches and homes of the Christian community in Faisalabad after blasphemy allegations. The violence led to the destruction of property and created fear among residents.

According to officials, 304 suspects have been arrested so far. Police submitted 18 challans in 22 FIRs related to the case. However, the court earlier raised concerns over delays and the pace of investigations.

The FIR stated that a mob of 500 to 600 people attacked the area, vandalized homes, and set churches and houses on fire.

Authorities are now under pressure to ensure accountability and bring all those involved to justice through a timely and fair trial.
