Islamabad (Web Desk): AI technology helped Islamabad police solve the murder of businessman Aamir Awan and arrest suspects within 24 hours, police officials said.

Aamir Awan, owner of a private motor showroom, was shot dead near Shahzad Town last night while trying to resist attackers. He was rushed to Shifa International Hospital but died from his injuries.

Earlier in the morning, police arrested five suspects in connection with the murder. Islamabad Police Chief Syed Nasir Rizvi said 17 teams were formed, six locations were geo-fenced, and 137 call records were analyzed.

Rizvi added that footage from 257 cameras was examined, and AI technology was crucial in solving the case. A total of 93 people were questioned, and a special control room managed the investigation.

Police also conducted 31 raids in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, Charsadda, and Mardan. During the operations, the notorious Mansoor Khan dacoit gang was captured in Charsadda. The gang had committed armed robberies across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and Punjab, often wearing bulletproof vests.

Weapons, including a Kalashnikov were recovered, and two non-Afghan nationals were among the arrested suspects. Interior State Minister Talal Chaudhry called the killing a “tragic incident” and praised the swift police action.

Chaudhry said the crime happened during a robbery attempt late at night and highlighted that maintaining law and order in Islamabad is challenging due to the presence of international delegations, diplomats, and foreign business figures.

He noted that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has strengthened security, fully activated Safe City cameras, and is using AI for better surveillance. Chaudhry also said Islamabad is being developed as Pakistan’s first fully integrated Safe City, improving traffic management and policing.
