Lahore (Web Desk): Lahore police have arrested a ride-hailing driver accused of harassing and assaulting a woman during a trip in the city.

According to SP Cantt Akhtar Nawaz, the suspect allegedly misbehaved with the woman while she was travelling in his vehicle. Police officials said the driver later dropped the woman at her destination but allegedly slapped her before fleeing from the scene.

After the complaint was received, DIG Operations Lahore directed authorities to immediately track down the suspect. SP Cantt Akhtar Nawaz was assigned the task, and a special police team was formed to locate and arrest the accused driver.

According to police, SHO Sarwar Road Rana Muhammad Irfan used modern technology to trace the vehicle involved in the incident. Officials said the suspect, identified as Rizwan, was located and arrested within an hour. Police also seized the car used in the ride-hailing service.

Authorities confirmed that a formal case has been registered against the accused based on the complaint filed by the woman. SP Cantt praised the quick response of the police team and said strict action would be taken against anyone involved in harassment or violence against women and children.

He added that law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring passenger safety and holding offenders accountable. The case has once again raised concerns about safety issues in ride-hailing services.

In December 2025, the Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment directed online taxi companies to prove that they follow the Workplace Act 2010 after multiple complaints were filed against their drivers. The move came after reports of harassment, inappropriate behaviour and drivers changing routes during rides, prompting authorities to review the safety systems of ride-hailing companies.

Officials said the seriousness of such complaints requires stronger monitoring and better protection measures for passengers.
