According to official reports, the luxury SUV was stolen on November 11, 2022, from Harrogate, UK. The vehicle’s tracking system later showed its exact location in Karachi’s Korangi Road area in February 2025, raising serious questions about how it entered Pakistan.
After detecting the signal, Interpol sent an alert letter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Islamabad, as well as to the Karachi Police and the Anti-Vehicles Lifting Cell (AVLC), confirming that the vehicle in question was indeed reported stolen abroad.
Sources from a private media outlet quoted Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, saying that the Interpol letter was received only two days ago at the office of the AVLC SSP, and further investigation has been initiated to trace the network behind the smuggling of the luxury car.
Authorities believe that the vehicle might have been brought into the country through fraudulent import channels or fake customs clearance, a practice that has surfaced multiple times in luxury car smuggling cases in Pakistan.
The recovery of a stolen Range Rover from the UK in Karachi exposes a worrying pattern of international car smuggling and weak border enforcement. Experts say this incident could lead to a major crackdown on illegal vehicle import networks operating across Pakistan. If proven, it might also trigger coordination between Interpol and Pakistani law agencies to prevent such cases in the future.
He said, “We have sent an email to the UK police and asked them to send us a detailed log of the tracker fitted in the vehicle.”
The IGP said that the police also sought the source of the active location of the vehicle from the tracker, as the vehicle was last spotted in Karachi on Feb 11, 2025.
