150 Nadra officers, a chairman dismissed on corruption charges

ISLAMABAD: (Sumaira Raja) Owing to massive corruption unearthed in the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), as many as 151 officers including one chairman have been dismissed during the last five years.

According to documents available with Suno News, the officers have been dismissed from the NADRA on the charges of issuing computerized national identity cards (CNICs) and for entering fake data in family trees.

The documents revealed that the officers dismissed include three director general, six directors, 13 deputy directors, 42 assistant directors and 86 other employees.

Out of these officers, 20 assistant directors and one deputy director were dismissed for issuance of CNICs illegally, as per the document.

In addition, one deputy director and 11 assistant directors were fired for persistent absenteeism, the documents revealed.

Three NADRA officers including two assistant directors and one director were dismissed for issuance of illegal family tree, it was alleged.

Meanwhile, Assistant Director Naeem Akhtar Bhatti was fired for holding fake degrees, the document showed. Three directors involved in other illegal activities were removed from their offices ahead of the completion of their contract period, according to the document.

Last year, the massive corruption of Rs13 billion was unearthed in NADRA.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Noor Alam Khan had informed the committee that a huge sum of Rs13 billion had been embezzled under the guise of the purchase of NADRA smart card and census tablets.

The PAC chairman had then disclosed that the NADRA chief had resigned from his post and the Interior Secretary was told to suspend all the officers involved in corruption.

As per Noor Alam, he had been informed about the corruption in NADRA through a letter he shared with the committee member and media persons. As per the letter, former NADRA chairman Tariq Malik had appointed his favourite persons in the authority.

Earlier, Tariq Malik was under investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency for his alleged involvement in the corruption scandal.
