The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) informed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT that work on the project is moving ahead as scheduled and the hotspots will be functional within the deadline.
Officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure under the national IT policy. The hotspots will be set up in major markets, public spaces, key landmarks, and government buildings, making high-speed internet accessible for citizens, students, and employees.

NTC shared that it is currently providing internet, communication, and cybersecurity services to more than 3,000 institutions across over 100 cities nationwide. Authorities believe the Wi-Fi rollout will support Islamabad’s transformation into a technology-friendly city and expand digital services.
The committee was earlier briefed that CDA’s technical team will assist NTC in completing installation work, while system operations and maintenance will remain under NTC’s responsibility. Officials added that the long-term plan is to make Islamabad the country’s first fully “Free Wi-Fi City.”
