Pakistan is set to enter the next phase of digital connectivity as the federal government moves closer to launching 5G services nationwide, with the spectrum auction scheduled for February 2026. Officials confirmed that all regulatory, technical, and financial preparations will be completed within the next four to six months to ensure a smooth process.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima stated that once the auction is finalized, 5G services could be available to the public within six months, depending on infrastructure readiness and operator deployment timelines.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has already approved the recommendations of the Spectrum Advisory Committee, which will soon be forwarded to the federal cabinet for final approval. The government has identified high-speed internet access as a critical driver of economic growth, digital services, and nationwide connectivity.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated that the Digital Pakistan initiative is being fast-tracked, with 5G rollout viewed as a key milestone. The planned auction will involve the 600 MHz spectrum, known for wider coverage and improved performance in densely populated areas.
Telecom operators have also proposed several policy measures, including pricing spectrum in Pakistani rupees, long-term installment options, tax incentives for infrastructure and devices, reduced withholding tax, and harmonized GST to promote affordability and investment.
Experts believe that 5G in Pakistan will significantly boost internet speeds, strengthen digital infrastructure, and support advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and smart city solutions, helping bridge the country’s digital divide.
