(Web Desk): Punjab Traffic Authorities are introducing AI-equipped vehicles for driving tests in an effort to address concerns about irregularities in the licensing process.

The initiative follows repeated complaints about favoritism and unqualified applicants obtaining licenses through personal connections.

According to officials, a summary has been submitted to the provincial government seeking approval to purchase 32 AI-powered vehicles. The procurement is expected to be completed by December. Each vehicle will include advanced sensors, cameras, and processing systems to ensure accurate and transparent evaluation of applicants.

Two vehicles have already been prepared for pilot testing, which authorities say yielded positive results. Initially, these smart vehicles will be deployed in Lahore and other major cities. The total cost of the 32 vehicles is estimated to exceed Rs16 crore, with around Rs6 lakh spent on installing the required equipment in each car.

Officials say the introduction of these vehicles will automate the testing and result-generation process, reducing the possibility of external influence. They added that only candidates who meet the merit criteria will be able to qualify for a driving license.

The DIG Traffic Punjab has forwarded the proposal to the government for final approval.
