(Web Desk): Dengue fever cases are climbing rapidly across Punjab, with hospitals in Lahore and other cities reporting a steady rise in patients as health authorities warn of worsening conditions.

According to official figures, 23 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, including five from Lahore. This has pushed the provincial tally to 721 cases so far in 2025, with nearly 200 infections reported in September alone.

Doctors link the surge to stagnant water left behind by recent floods, which has created ideal breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes. “The number of patients is increasing because of flood conditions,” said Dr. Muhammad Dilshad of Services Hospital. “Anti-mosquito spraying must be intensified to stop further spread.”

Hospitals in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan have reported steady admissions, with many patients arriving in emergency wards with high fever, body aches, and other symptoms associated with dengue.

Residents in affected areas have raised concerns over limited fumigation and surveillance, saying patchy anti-dengue campaigns are leaving communities vulnerable. Public health experts stress that coordinated spraying drives, removal of stagnant water, and community awareness are essential to controlling the outbreak.

Punjab’s health department has urged citizens to take precautions, including covering water containers, wearing full-sleeved clothing, and using mosquito repellents. Officials said monitoring teams have been deployed, but acknowledged that the scale of post-flood mosquito breeding requires urgent and expanded efforts.

With weather conditions still favorable for mosquito growth, authorities fear the numbers may rise further if immediate preventive steps are not taken.
