Sindh confirms first dengue death of the year

KARACHI (Web Desk): The first death from dengue has been reported in Sindh province this year, as a 24 year old patient is passed away at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital.

According to reports, a dengue patient died at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital, and this is the first dengue death in Sindh this year.

According to the hospital administration, the 24-year-old patient had been on a ventilator for 2 days and his platelets had dropped to 32,000. Normally, the number of platelets in a healthy person ranges from 150,000 to 450,000. This indicates the seriousness of the situation.

On the other hand, the Health Department says that 295 cases of dengue have been reported across Sindh this year, of which 260 cases of dengue virus have been reported from Karachi.

During June 2025, Karachi division has registered 32 new dengue cases. On the other hand, the Hyderabad and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions haven’t report any new cases during the same month. Sukkur and Mirpurkhas divisions reported just one case each in June.

If we look at the overall situation of cases in Sindh for the year 2025 so far, Karachi leads with 260 reported infections. Hyderabad division has reported a total of 30 cases this year, followed by Mirpurkhas with 2 cases and Sukkur also with 2 cases. The Shaheed Benazirabad division has reported just 1 case to date.

The health authorities urge citizens to take precautionary steps, to eliminate standing water, use mosquito repellents and seek immediate medical attention in case of symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, and body pain.
