ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on June 14, World Blood Donor Day, praised people who altruistically donated their blood and urged the need for improving public awareness about the need for constant blood donations for patients.

He addressed the nation, saying that “There is a need for increased public awareness about the critical need for regular blood donations for patients undergoing surgeries and childbirth and for those suffering from serious ailments like cancer and anaemia.”

He also added that “Give blood, Give hope: together we save lives” is the theme of World Blood Donor Day 2025. Other than emphasising that donating blood regularly is important for victims, the day is celebrated to praise people that have altruistically donated their blood for the virtuous cause of giving millions of patients another chance to live life once again.

The prime minister said, “We extend our gratitude and deep appreciation to the blood donors: the silent saviors. Blood donation, besides being an act of compassion for humanity, is a necessity for the health care system of any country.”

Pakistan, due to finite blood donations, faced a scarcity of blood supply, said the PM with reference to the WHO.

Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that with the help of the National Blood Transfusion Program (NBTP), blood donor awareness efforts are intended to solve the issue and that the Pakistani government was well aware of the situation.

In Pakistan only 10 per cent of blood donations are done willingly; the rest come from the friends and families of the patients in order. Hence, strong teamwork is required to combat this challenge.

“Together we make a safer, protected and healthier Pakistan,” he said while also acknowledging private blood donation syndicates. In addition, he urged the youth to be a part of this cause.
