LAHORE: Pakistan’s first Virtual Blood Bank Centre has been launched under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz. It will ensure instant blood availability in emergencies and crises.

If blood is needed by one immediately, they can contact the Emergency Helpline 15 and dial the 4 button. This will immediately contact the Virtual Blood Bank Centre, where all the important details will be collected by a Safe City Officer, like the blood group needed and the location of the patient in need of blood.

After the system will carry out a check finding blood donors that are registered and near the patient, this system allows for steady, straight communication through a conference call, ensuring prompt blood donation.

The process of registering blood donors in the Virtual Blood Bank has been simplified. The donors can simply call on the helpline 15 to register themselves as donors or they can do so using the Safe City official website or they can visit the Police Khidmat counters made in government hospitals all over Punjab for registration. The donation process also involves police officers from their respective police stations.

·       Donor matching is now instantaneous as the system uses location and blood type to find a suitable donor for the patient.

More than 25,000 blood donors have been registered in the Virtual Bank so far. Exactly, 10,000 police personnel and 15,000 citizens have been registered.

14,000 patients or more have benefited from this system and the system gets 2,500 calls, aiding 250 emergencies daily.

Since blood donation is a noble cause, Maryam Nawaz has requested the public specifically focus on the youth to register themselves. She has highlighted the importance of how every drop of blood is a means of survival in dire situations. A new period of digitisation is emerging in Punjab where the quality of services is not only being improved but also saving lives by the minute.
