YouTuber Maaz Safdar faces a legal case over controversial remarks
A clip of Safdar speaking about Ashura circulated widely on social media, with many Shia social media users saying the remarks hurt their religious sentiments. The clip drew sharp criticism from users who described his comments as insensitive toward the community's beliefs and mourning traditions.
The backlash spread quickly across platforms, with many users calling for accountability and demanding a public apology from the content creator.
Barrister Amir Khosa filed a formal police complaint against Safdar, arguing that his remarks had hurt religious sentiments and that legal action should follow.
Safdar addressed the controversy in a video message, saying he had no intention of hurting anyone's religious feelings. He said that if his words had caused pain to anyone, he was apologetic for that, and stressed the remarks were not meant to offend the Shia community or any religious group.
