Senior Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon called the Bollywood film part of a larger conspiracy against Pakistan. “Lyari is not violence, it is culture, peace, talent, and resilience. Next month 'Mera Lyari' will release, showing the true face of Lyari: peace, prosperity, and pride,” he said in a post on X.
Memon stressed that ‘Dhurandhar’ misrepresents Lyari, which he described as a symbol of cultural richness and social harmony. The upcoming Sindhi-language film aims to reveal the city’s real story to local and international audiences.
Meanwhile, a constitutional petition has been filed in Karachi against ‘Dhurandhar’ for using images of the late Benazir Bhutto, PPP flags, and party rally footage without permission. The petition also accuses the film of portraying the PPP as supporting terrorists.
PPP activist Muhammad Amir submitted the petition in the District and Sessions Court (South) in Karachi. It seeks an FIR against the film’s director, producers, actors, and relevant crew members.
The petition names director Aditya Dhar, producers Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Kishore Deshpande, and actors including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Beni. It also lists cinematographer Vikash Nolcha, editor Shiv Kumar V Panicker, and other crew members.

The petitioner claims the trailer uses visuals of the late former prime minister and PPP symbols without legal permission. He argues that the film labels Lyari as a “terrorist war zone,” which is misleading, defamatory, and harmful to Pakistan’s reputation.
‘Dhurandhar’ has faced strong backlash since its release. The movie features Ranveer Singh as a RAW agent and Arjun Rampal as a Pakistani intelligence officer, raising concerns about its depiction of Karachi.
