As HBO begins filming its much-anticipated Harry Potter TV series, Emma Watson’s father has offered a word of caution to the parents of the young actors stepping into the iconic roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

Following the announcement, Emma Watson’s father spoke out about the realities of childhood fame. The 35-year-old actress, best known for playing Hermione in the original film series, spent a decade in the spotlight — something her father says he worked hard to keep from overwhelming her.

Speaking to Times Radio, he said, “As a parent, you have to be scared... This can be a very difficult thing for a parent and child to handle — or not.”

He added that keeping Emma grounded meant limiting the focus on her stardom at home: “It certainly helped that I don’t actually watch movies; it’s not a big thing in the house. That made it easier for us to keep her feet on the ground.”

“Life went on as normally as possible. Sure, her homework went back to school on motorbikes, but she still had to do it and stay accountable,” he shared.

Meanwhile, HBO’s new adaptation is now underway in France, with filming taking place on Île de Sein, off the coast of Brittany. The shoot includes a recreation of one of the series’ most iconic moments: Hagrid’s unforgettable line, “You’re a wizard, Harry!”

J.K. Rowling, the author of the beloved series, has endorsed the new cast, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “All three are wonderful. I couldn’t be happier.”
