LAHORE (Web Desk): The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has signed a cargo agreement with Garuda Indonesia to boost exports and give Pakistani goods wider access to global markets.

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has taken a major step to support exporters by entering a cargo partnership with Indonesia’s national carrier, Garuda Indonesia.

Under the Cargo Special Pro-Rate Agreement, Pakistani exporters will get smoother and uninterrupted cargo access to international destinations through a shared network.

The agreement will take effect from January 2026 and will remain valid until July 2027, giving exporters a long-term window to plan shipments.

As part of the deal, cargo from Pakistan will travel via Jeddah and Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta and onward to other global markets. The network will also connect shipments to Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok.

The agreement further opens routes to major markets such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Seoul, and Australia, making it easier for Pakistani products to reach East Asia and the Pacific.

Exporters and freight forwarding agents will benefit from competitive cargo rates and priority handling, which could reduce delays and costs.

PIA officials said the move aims to increase Pakistan’s exports, expand the national carrier’s cargo business and strengthen the country’s position in global trade.

Last year, PIA achieved another milestone when the UK Department for Transport granted it a cargo license after a successful audit.

This license allows PIA to carry cargo directly from Pakistan to the UK, following an on-site inspection by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and a British inspection team.
