According to police sources, the fraud happened when the factory owner fell ill. The general manager and finance officer allegedly took advantage of his absence and caused losses worth Rs700 million.
A case was registered over financial irregularities at the factory owned by well-known industrialist Zafar Sarwar.
Sources said that GM Bilal and finance officer Salahuddin removed a large quantity of yarn from the factory without permission while the owner was not present. Initially, a fraud case worth Rs235,000,000 was registered against the two brothers at Khurrianwala police station. Later, a court granted them bail.
Following court orders, a fresh audit was conducted by a private company. The audit confirmed a much larger fraud amounting to Rs699,300,000. After this finding, the Sessions Judge of Jaranwala cancelled the bail of both accused and ordered their arrest.
